About our School

Physical Education

We strive to deliver outstanding PE that allows pupils to be physically active, thrive in a broad range of physical activities and engage in competitive sports. We meet our pledge of children taking part in a wide range of sports thanks to our stimulating, challenging - but safe - environment that allows us to deliver PE lessons whatever the weather.

Intent

Our intent is for pupils to:

  • Thoroughly enjoy being physically active and have the confidence to participate in different sports

  •  Practise skills in a range of activities and to have the highest of expectations of themselves when performing these individually, in small groups and within a team

  • Develop high levels of physical fitness through being active for sustained periods of time

  • Understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle through regular exercise and healthy nutrition

  • Be advocates of PE and confidently talk about their achievements

Implementation

This is implemented by:

  • In EYFS, we implement Physical Development by providing a wide range of opportunities for children to develop both gross and fine motor skills.

  • We also ensure children are supported to carry out large scale movements both indoors on our apparatus and outdoors through building, running, jumping and carrying, as well as develop smaller, more specific movements in their small world play and building.

  • Using an effective Long Term Plan for teachers to ensure pupils have access to broad range of physical activities

  • High quality planning that ensures consistency in teaching throughout school and challenge for all .

  • Investing in the School Sports Partnership to allow all pupils to participate in competitions with local schools

  • Investing in highly specialist PE teachers to work alongside teachers, ensuring they remained upskilled by providing them with a wealth of fun and innovative teaching ideas.

  • We invest in our sports equipment providing a range of areas for PE lessons, clubs and after-school events to take place including our school field, an astro-turf area and indoor apparatus.

  • To help our pupils feel confident when coming up against larger schools in inter-school competitions, we often schedule friendly matches against local schools.

Impact

  • The impact of our PE approach is:

  • All children make outstanding progress in PE and enjoy participating in sport

  • The profile of PE and sport is widely recognised and highly celebrated and rewarded within school

  • Teachers have increased confidence when delivering high quality PE lessons

  • Pupils talk confidently about PE and their learning

  • The majority of our pupils choose to stay for sports after school clubs.

  • Each year, every child from year 1 upwards takes part in a sports partnership event with children from other schools.
